Over one-third of children killed in car crashes were not in car seats or wearing seat belts. Scary isn’t it? The best way to protect your children is to be an informed parent.
Here are some child passenger safety tips to follow:
- Always use a child seat and don’t Seat your child in Front of an Airbag – Airbags can kill young children riding in the front seat, also never place a rear-facing car seat in front of an airbag.
- Seat and buckle children in the middle of the back seat when possible, because it is the safest spot in the vehicle.
- Buckle children in car seats, booster seats, or seat belts on every trip, no matter how short. You can set a good example by always using a seat belt yourself.
- Never carry children on the lap even while you are using a seat belt
- Never leave your kids alone inside the car
- Use child lock feature to prevent your kids from opening car doors
- Never let the kids stick hands/head outside the moving vehicle
- Train children not to fiddle with the gear levers while the car is stationary and not to distract you by sharing food / or showing messages on the phone while driving.
Always Use Child Seat:
Birth up to Age 2: Rear-facing car seat.
Age 2 up to at least Age 5: Forward-facing car seat.
Age 5 up until seat belts fit properly: Booster seat.
Once Seat Belts Fit Properly without a Booster Seat: Seat Belt
Asking yourself; Is my child safe in the car, should be at the top of your list for all your car trips.
